Their marriage license was issued in Wayne County. However, they married in Appanoose County.
As I don't know who contributed the information on his "parents", I can't verify it. I have done some checking also and can't come up with anything on them. There is a record on Ancestry on Iowa marriages that lists a W.T. Thornton who married a Louisa J Parson (and shows child Charles Thornton) but there is no date or county on that record. And it leads to the fact W.T.Thornton was most likely married previously in England. I haven't found any records of W.T and Louisa in Iowa either. Lots of questions, not many answers, I'm afraid. If I didn't know Charles Thornton existed at one time, I'd begin to wonder !! His and Clara's last child was born in 1898, however he doesn't show up in any census record I've found with her (or without her for that matter). I do know he was a "traveling salesman" of sorts ... sold jewelry, and other things ... but that's really all I know about him. My grandfather, his eldest son, only told his family that Charles left one day for work and never returned when he was just a young boy.
I appreciate all your help.
Kathy
