I have not focused on this cluster of families in a while but have accumulated scattered bits about intermarriages in Iowa among the families originally from West Virginia. Nothing so far has come to light that explains why these people chose Iowa or why they decided to leave West Virginia. Of course, it's not unusual for people moving westward to move in clusters like this, and it's possible that the reasons were simply economic--the attraction of what looked like better opportunity elsewhere.

Which families are you researching specifically? I have acquired some new information (not yet digested!) from a distant cousin in Iowa about Robeys, Dunn, McShane, and Warman connections. IF you'll let me know how to reach you directly, I'll be glad to share one I've gotten to that stack on my desk!
