Anton and Katherine (Pfrommer) Kafer

Anton Kafer, a farmer, did business at Anton Beuchel's carriage and blacksmith shop in Littleport. Katherine's sister, Regina, was the wife of Anton Beuchel. On July 10, 1881 of the year after they met, Anton & Katherine were married the old Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic church in Petersburg, Delaware co.Iowa.

Note: Sts. Peter and Paul parish was organized at Petersburg and in 1874 the first church building was dedicated & erected. In 1905 a new church was built, replacing the original building. ~History of Delaware Co. Iowa, Vol I, 1914

Anton 'Tony' Kafer - 1/24/1860 - 12/13/1929. Son of Mathias Kafer & Dorothea Hartge. He is buried in Sacred Heart, Littleport cemetery. Obituary

Katherine Pfrommer - 7/14/1859 - 3/29/1930. Daughter of Frederick Pfrommer & Regina Miller. She immigrated from Germany in 1880 at age 21 years. She is buried in Sacred Heart, Littleport cemetery. Obituary

Mathias 'Mathew' - 1882-1892. Mathias is buried in St. Catherine cemetery, Dubuque co., IA. Death notice

Theresa G. 'Tracy' - 1883-1959. She married Thomas Madden. She is buried at Sacred Heart cemetery, Littleport. Obituary

Anton 'Tony' JR - 1885-1919. He was married to Lizzie Baars. He is buried at Sacred Heart cemetery, Littleport. Obituary

Frederick P. 'Fred' - 1885-1934. He was married to Florence Carpenter. He died in Rapid City, S.D. & burial in Mt. Calvary cemetery there. Obituary

Paul - 1887-1970. He married Elsie Hakert. Served in US Army during WWI. Paul is buried in Union cemetery, Littleport. Obituary

Frank - 1891-1961. He married Florence Nissen. He's buried in Riverside cemetery, Charles City, Floyd co. IA. Obituary

Joseph 'Joe' - 1893-1945. He was twice married, first to Louise Luers and second to Leah Welsch. He is buried at Sacred Heart cemetery, Littleport. Obituary

Leona Regina 'Lona' - 1898-1982. She married Martin B. Wiley. She is buried at Sacred Heart cemetery, Littleport. Obituary

Theresa Gertitia 'Tracy' Kafer and Thomas Madden were married June 16, 1903.

Grandma Beckman was Florence (Carpenter) Kafer's grandmother, Anna Dorotha 'Dora' (Dahling) Beckman. She died in 1921 & is buried in Union cemetery, Littleport.

Florence died in August 1932 at the family home in Rapid City, South Dakota where the family had lived for 2 years. Burial is in Mt. Calvary cemetery, Rapid City.

Kathleen was the daughter of Tom & Tracy (Kafer) Madden (see their photos above)

Leona married Martin Wiley in Littleport on September 20, 1921. They had five children: Cletus M. (1922-1991), Gerald Janarius (1923-1963), Irene Rosella (1929-2000), Marian K. (1929-1990) and Kenneth Paul (1933-1980).
