Littleport: Paul Kafer, the son of Anton and Katerina Kafer, was born near Elkport in Clayton County, October 15, 1887. He grew up and spent his life at Littleport. He passed away the evening of February 18 at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point after a three-month illness.
He entered the United States Army in 1917 during World War I, saw action in France and was honorably discharged in 1918.
Paul Kafer married Elsie Hakert on October 28, 1925, in Dubuque They established their home at Littleport where Paul farmed a small acreage and was employed as a road maintenance worker for Clayton County until retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Theresa Madden and five brothers, Mathew, Anton, Fred, Frank and Joseph.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie; one son, Paul Jr., Kenosha, Wis.; one sister, Leona Wiley, Dubuque; and five grandchildren, Paul A., Angela, Elizabeth, Anna Marie and David, all of Kenosha, Wis.; plus many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Kafer was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Littleport, where funeral services were held by Father James McBride at 10:30 Saturday morning, Feb. 21.
He was buried at Union Cemetery at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 3 days.
