CLAYTON COUNTY REGISTER, Elkader, Iowa, December 19, 1929 (Page 6, Columns 5 & 6)
Anton Kafer was born at Elkport, Iowa, Jan. 24, 1860 and passed away at his home in Littleport, Friday morning, Dec. 13, 1929 at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 19 days. Mr. Kafer had been a sufferer from Bright’s disease for several months.
He was united in marriage with Miss Katherine Frommer and to this union 6 sons and two daughters were born, two sons having preceded their father in death as follows: Matthew and Anton Jr. Besides the widow the following children mourn his death; Mrs. Thomas Madden of Littleport and Mrs. Martin Wiley of Edgewood, Fred, Paul, and Jos. Of Littleport and Frank Kafer of Charles City, also 17 grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. John Thompson of Manchester, Mrs. A. A. Heacock of Dubuque and Mrs. John Oarn of Edgewood. “Tony” as he was known by his friends was well liked and respected by everyone, having been a resident in and around Littleport during his life time. He was a member of the M. W. A.
Funeral services were held Monday morning from “Sacred Heart” church, Rev. Father Goetsinger officiating. Interment being made in Sacred Heart cemetery. The casket bearers were as follows: C. W. J. Brich, John Farrell and Louis Minch. Several relatives and friends from a distance attended the funeral services.
