Iowa State Women's Reformatory, Rockwell City
[today - North Central Correctional Facility]
The Iowa State Women's Reformatory was established in 1918. It was located one and half miles east of Rockwell City, Calhoun County, Iowa. It housed 77 women in private rooms who were sentenced to jail in excess of 30 days. In 1982 the reformatory was reconstructed as the North Central Correctional Facility. Today it houses approximately 500 men who are considered low risk offenders.
