Ry., in Calhoun county, 12 miles s. w. of Rockwell City, the judicial seat, 20 s. w. of Fort Dodge, and 75 n. w. of Des Moines. It contains Baptist, Christian, Methodist, Presbyterian and United Brethren churches, excellent schools, 3 banks, brick and tile works, grain elevators, feed mill, etc. Three weekly newspapers—Blade, Graphic and News—are published. It is lighted by electricity, has an excellent system of water works, an opera house, 5 churches, excellent educational facilities, 2 banks, 3 grain elevators, fire department, creamery, flour mill, brick and tile works, and 2 weekly newspapers, the Democrat and the Journal. It is located on the Des Moines and Spirit Lake division of the C., M. & St. P. Ry., and the Rockwell City and Storm Lake branch of the same road with a freight division station; also on the main line of the Illinois Central R. R., and on the N. & N. W. Ry., in Twin Lakes township 97 miles n. w. of Des Moines, and 17 s. e. of Fonda. It has Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Christian and Catholic churches, a graded public school, an opera house, 3 banks, 2 weekly newspapers—the Calhoun County Republican and the Rockwell City Advocate, lodges of the leading secret and benevolent societies, etc. Ships grain, live stock, hay, butter and cheese.
