Story of the Bishop family buried in Bishop Cemetery, Calhoun County, Iowa

Daniel Bishop, born 1822 in New York married a woman named Jane Davis in DeKalb County, Illinois on October 11, 1857.  Jane’s maiden name was Jane Huse, born 1821 in New York.  She had been previously married to a man whose last name was Davis and had a daughter, Clarissa Davis, born in 1844 in New York.
Daniel and Jane were living in Sandwich Township, DeKalb County, Illinois when their son, Buel Bishop, was born July 17, 1858, as well as their daughters, Alice A. Bishop, born April 7, 1861 and Diana Bishop, born August 16, 1864. The family was still living in DeKalb County, Illinois in 1870, but sometime between 1870 and 1880 Jane Bishop died. Daniel moved his son and daughters to Calhoun Township, Calhoun County, Iowa by 1880. His daughter, Alice, married John C. Fifield in Greene County, Iowa (next door to Calhoun County) on August 28, 1881 in Kendrick Township, Greene County, Iowa.
A smallpox epidemic hit Iowa in 1882. All three of Daniel and Jane’s children died in 1882: Buel Bishop died on July 28, age 24, Diana Bishop died on August 2, age 17, and Alice A. (Bishop) Fifield died on August 14, age 21. They are all buried in Bishop Cemetery. It is not known what happened to their father, Daniel Bishop, but he did not stay in Calhoun County.
