Wow, what great finds but only seems to add to the mystery. If you look at the 1856 Richland census you will find Paulina Green. The youngest child listed is Hugh Green, age 3. Obviously this is the illegit child of Hugh Bowen as this child was born 1-2 years after Joseph Green died! Hugh Jr. who died 1942 in Missouri was born in 1852 and fits the bill. Then you have George Green's obit that says his half brother is Hugh Bowen but no mention of the link in Paulina's obit.
Now, this is where things get complicated. You show that Paulina is not at least living with John Adams in 1860 but at the same time Paulina Green married 1857 to John Adams per Jones County marriages and show Adams children living with her in 1870. The John Adams born c.1814 at Richland match the age of John Green who is with wife name Paulina in Floyd County 1880 census. But there is also our Paulina in Richland the same year.
Then you have Hugh Bowen Jr.'s obit saying he had a half sister named Hannah Cookhill. This is the Hannah Adams living with Sheffield and the same Hannah A. Adams who married 1874 Bowens Prairie to James M. Corkeill (should be Corkill)
So now we have George Green with half brother Hugh and Hugh with half sister Hannah Adams. What happened to the Adams marriage? And looks like Bowen never married Paulina (or anyone) according to the 1859 newspaper article on his life and probate file filed by Berryhill.
I am starting to wonder if this is a case of multiple partners/wives such as Mormons?
And around and around we go!
