“TAKEN BY DEATH” newspaper article on death of Mrs. Edward H. Jones (daughter of Cyrus Westerfield)

Mrs. Edward H. Jones, 94, died Monday at her home, 1001 Thirty-seventh street, after a prolonged illness.  Mrs. Jones was a pioneer resident of Iowa.  She was born in Indiana and, as a young child, crossed the Mississippi river in a covered wagon with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Cyrus Westerfield, to establish a prairie home at Fort Dodge. 

Lived Here 53 Years – Mrs. Jones had lived in Des Moines for 53 years.  Her husband and one son, DeWitt, preceded her in death.  She is survived by a sister, Miss Susan Westerfield of Los Angeles, California and by one son, E. Paul Jones, and two daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Foster and Mrs. Walter T. Robinson, all of Des Moines, and by 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Presbyterian – Mrs. Jones had been a member of Central Presbyterian church for 50 years.  She was a charter member of the Chauncey DePew club and was a member of Abigail Adams Chapter, Daughter of the American Revolution.  Services will be conducted at Dunn’s Funeral home Wednesday, at an hour to be announced later by the Rev. Alvin L. Morris.  Burial will be at Masonic cemetery.
