On being discharged he returned home, tried farming for three years, but on account of ill health quit and worked at his trade in Millersburg, Iowa, then at Victor from 1865 until 1876. – When quite young came with parents who settled in Springfield, Illinois and in 1853 came to Iowa and settled in Iowa County.
