Evelyn McALEXANDER of Beaconsfield, who graduated recently with distinction from Iowa State University in Ames with
a B.S. degree in elementary education, has accepted a teaching position for the 1977-78 school year in Woodbine. She will
work with students who have learning disabilities.
Mrs. Bill ANDERSON and daughter, Kris, have moved to Mount Ayr, where the former has accepted the position of a Title I
aide with the local school. Col. ANDERSON is with the U.S. Army and will be stationed in Korea for the next year.
Wishard Chapel - Marla WILKINS of Tingley won first place in the Junior Division of the State Beef Cookout contest held
during a CowBelles State Workshop held in Ames and Nevada. Mrs. Doyle RICHARDS also attended the workshop.
Cynthia CONLEY of Maloy, is one of three girls to accept a March of Dimes scholarship presnted during a banquet in the
Rolling Priaire Inn in Des Moines. Cynthia, a 1977 graduate of the Mount Ayr Community High School, will attend the
Methodist Medical Center School of Nursing in Des Moines this fall. The scholarship is awarded to a student who is
taking post high school training in a medically-related field.
Larry KIMBLE, the Mount Ayr Community junior high instructor, is serving as an intern instructor for the University of
Iowa. KIMBLE and four other teachers will take a group of 36 high school juniors and seniors on a three-week hiking,
camping and canoeing trip in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Canada. In addition to these activities, the students will be
involved in ecological and environmental studies, bird watching and geological studies, with KIMBLE in charge of the
ecology-related activities. Other responsibilities will include counseling the students, planning activities, campy
and canoeing techniques and bus driving.
Sheila BRAND is one of 32 Iowa delegates and five advisors who will attend the National Youth Leadership meeting of
the Future Homemakers of America to be held during July in Seattle, Wash. Sheila, daughter of the Lee BRANDS of
Mount Ayr, was recently elected as state FHA secretary.
BIRTHS:
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin RAISCH of Des Moines, are the parents of a seven-pound, 15-ounce son, Jerod Webb, born
June 23. He is welcomed by a sister, Jennifer Marie. The grandparents and great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
Harold WEBB of Mount Ayr, and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. HILLEBRAN of Tingley.
