Among some of the top finishers in the livestock judging at the Ringgold County Fair this week were the grand champion
market beef title with a Chianina-Angus cross steer shown by Jason LYNCH of Maloy; the grand champion market lamb which
was a 125-pound Hampshire-Suffolk cross shown by Mike SHIELDS of rural Diagonal, and the top individual market pig which
was shown by Brian COOK. More of the top winners in the livestock shows at the Ringgold County Fair were Trent JOHNSTON
of Diagonal who showed the supreme champion heifer in his first try as a 4-Her; Jeremy WEEDA of Mount Ayr who exhibited
the champion dairy goat, and Marcy MILLER who showed the supreme champion dairy animal, which was a Holstein cow.
Among Ringgold County 4-Hers who had non-livestock projects qualify for the state fair at the county fair this week were
Jennifer STEPHENS, Kelly RICHARDS, Bobbi HUNT, Janelle WALTERS, Stacy JENNINGS, Heather CLARK, Erika SHIELDS, Billi
HUNT, Emily McALEXANDER and Elsa McALEXANDER.
Bobbi HUNT of Diagonal and Krista SHAHA of Mount Ayr swept the top
honors in the 4-H Fashion Revue and Clothing Selection contests. Bobbi HUNT will represent the county in the state fair
in both the fashion revue and clothing selection areas and Krista SHAHA will go in the clothing selection category.
Two Mount Ayr sisters, Jamie and Jody DENNEY, took most of the honors in the 4-H horse show at the Ringgold county Fair
Sunday afternoon. Jody qualified to advance to the state fair in both the barrel racing and pole bending as well as
winning other honors. Jamie won the trail ride competition along with other showing honors.
Royalty for the Ringgold County Fair was named at the fair queen contest held Thursday night. Karla KINTON, daughter of
the Reverends Phil and Doris KINTON, was named fair queen. First runner-up was Patty TAYLOR, daughter of Jack and Dixie
TAYLOR of Diagonal, and second runner-up was Melanie TRULLINGER, daughter of Roger and Mary TRULLINGER of Mount Ayr.
Named as princess of the fair was BreAnne TEPLEY, seven, daughter of Larry and Pat TEPLEY of Diagonal.
Stacey Lynne FOLAND, 12, daughter of Harold and Linda FOLAND and granddaughter of Mrs. Francis VIRDEN of
Kellerton and Mr. and Mrs. Roy FOLAND of Grand River, has been selected as a finalist in the 1987 Miss Iowa National
Pre-Teen Pageant to be held at the Adventureland Inn Motel in Des Moines August 15. Stacey's hobbies include horseback
riding, stamp collecting, knitting, dancing and playing the clarinet.
A special pie contest was held Saturday afternoon, with senior citizens served the results following the event. Winner
of the two-crust pie competition was Janet TIDRICK of Mount Ayr with a peach pie. Second place went to Minnie DRAKE
with a cherry pie. Winner of the soft pie competition was Richard BUTLER, who baked a sweet potato pie.
Tuesday, July 28, a contract for administrative services was signed by the Ringgold County Group Home, Inc. president,
Clifford FORCE. This contract is with Southwest Iowa Residential Facilities, Inc. in Creston. Daniel TURNER of Creston
will be assuming these duties. TURNER will be administrator for the Group Home under construction in west Mount Ayr that
will provide living quarters for eight mentally retarded adults and two house parents.
