While Iowa Secretary of
Agriculture Patty JUDGE announced Monday that tests confirmed that 24 Iowa horses have contracted West Nile Virus (WNV),
Ringgold county is waiting on the test results from two blue jays and a horse. According to Becky FLETCHALL, director of
Ringgold County Public Health Nursing Agency, the two birds from Kellerton and Mount Ayr that have been sent in for tests,
showed typical signs of the WNV.
A petition was filed with the county board of supervisors, pursuant to Iowa Code Section
331.306, petitioning the board of supervisors to include a public question as a ballot issue on the November 5 general
election ballot. The question asked to be on the ballot was, "Should the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors continue
their support and participation in the proposed Gooseberry Lake Project?" Yes or No.
Mark TRULLINGER of Mount Ayr recently
participated in the U.S. Naval Academy's week-long seminar program at Annapolis, MD. TRULLINGER, the son of Stephen and
Gail TRULLINGER of Mount Ayr, was introduced to academy life through a regimen of academics, physical training, intramural
sports, sailing and seamanship as well as leadership training and social activities during the week. TRULLINGER is a senior
at Mount Ayr Community high school.
A former Mount Ayr resident has been named a master teacher in the Chicago Public School
system. Eric MOE, son of Mel and Becky MOE of Mount Ayr, is a math and science teacher in the North Kenwood-Oakland Charter
School.
With the building and parking lot concrete in place, progress toward the opening of a Dollar General store in Mount
Ayr is moving ahead. The building, located along Highway 2 and 169 across the street from All Seasons Cafe, has been built
in the past few weeks.
Representing Ringgold county in the 57th edition of Lyrical Iowa, the annual anthology of the Iowa
Poetry Association, will be Bernice ABARR of Mount Ayr and Donna OLNEY HEYER and Clair B. HEYER of Tingley. Alice RINGBERG
of Shannon City also has a poem included.
