Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department members were called to a morning fire Tuesday which destroyed a 60-foot-by-12-foot machine shed on the Brett YODER farm south of Mount Ayr. The fire department responded to a 7:55a.m. call to the shed, which was completely destroyed along with a tractor and a good deal of hay. Hay was still burning Tuesday afternoon at the site of the building.

The fund to help with the medical expenses of Sandy MERCER, Grand Valley Community high school senior who was seriously injured in a three-wheeler - truck accident this summer, received a boost from the Aid Association for Lutherans this week. According to Theola BULLOCK, a check for $2,557.63 was received to help with MERCER'S expenses from the fraternal organization and non-profit insurance company based in Wisconsin. The money raises the total help from the area to more than $9,000 after $6,500 was raised in a benefit at Sun Valley Lake earlier this fall.

A teenager from Arizona died in Ringgold county after receiving a gunshot wound Tuesday morning. Dead is Chad STARMER, 14, a ninth grader from Tucson, AZ, who was visiting in the Diagonal area. He and his parents, Eldon and Linda STARMER, formerly lived in rural Diagonal.

Neil MORGAN of Kellerton, Ringgold County Farm Bureau treasurer, will serve as chairman of the 1986-87 county Farm Bureau budget committee, according to Warren ANGUS, county Farm Bureau president. The executive officers will serve on the budget committee under MORGAN. Executive officers include Warren ANGUS, Royce DIVELY, John ALLEN, Ted DERSCHEID and Jodi ANGUS.

Judge Lewis Scholarships have been given to Southwestern Community College students for the 1986-87 year. They are Ken CAMPBELL, $100; Robert GRAHAM, $200, and David P. LOVE, $200. Ken is an arts and science freshman and the son of Doyle and Roberta CAMPBELL of Mount Ayr. Robert is in the auto body program and the son of Robert and Karyn GRAHAM of Benton. David is in the carpentry program an the son of Bud and Cindy CARPENTER of Mount Ayr.

Debbie WEBB, daughter of former Mount Ayr residents, Jim and Mary Sue WEBB, now of Chelsea, MI, is doing well as a member of the Chelsea high school swim team. Three times this season she has broken the freshman diving record at the school. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob BASTOW of Mount Ayr and the great-granddaughter of Mrs. Mary TRIGGS of Mount Ayr.
