Boys and girls from all over Ringgold county - 92 in all - have been participating in a baby-sitting training program
in Mount Ayr over the past few weeks.
Melvin MOE of Mount Ayr and Christi SICKELS, a Mount Ayr Community high school student, were grand prize winners
in the adult and high school divisions of the 15th annual consrvation art contest held May 22 a the Neighborhood
Center.
Michelle A. CARLSON, a senior at Mount Ayr Community high school, has been named a 1982 United States national
winner in business education by the United States Achievement Academy. CARLSON, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Lester CARLSON of Mount Ayr, was nominated for the award by business teacher Jean YEAROUS.
Two Mount Ayr Community high school graduates were among those with a perfect 4.0 average for work done this
past semester at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. Both are in elementary education. Brenda
DAVISON JORGENSEN, who graduated this spring from NWMSU, and Sheila BRAND JANSSEN of Farragut, formerly of
Mount Ayr, were among the ones attaining the high level of achievement.
Grand opening of McDonnell Appliance, 102 E. Madison, Mount Ayr, will be held this weekend, according to
Randy and Ruth McDONNELL, owners. The new store features Whirlpool appliances and is located between Shafer Insurance
and Lucky Lanes.
Deborah FRENCH of Mount Ayr has been promoted and accepted the position of Soil Conservation technician with the
Soil Conservation Service U.S.D.A. at the Mount Ayr Field office effective May 16, 1982.
Roxanne CONLIN, democrat candidate for governor of Iowa, has named Debbie FRENCH of Mount Ayr as her Ringgold county
campaign coordinator.
The Mount Ayr Community high school Raiderettes shuttle hurdle relay team failed to place at the girls state track
meet in Des Moines Friday. The team of Mary Ann WEEDA, Tracey FLOYD, Donna POORE and Lisa KLEJCH ran 1:08.6 in the preliminaries,
not fast enough to qualify for the finals. The girls had qualified for the state meet with a district time of
1:07.43.
