A $100,000 check from the midwest office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation will be presented to the city
of Mount Ayr in a ceremony Monday, Jan. 7. The ceremony will take placeat the Pheasant Run restaurant on the northeast
corner of the square. Of the grant, $80,000 will be used for brick and mortar projects in the historic preservation of
the town square while the remaining $20,000 has been set aside for technical assistance necessary for the project.
At the city council meeting Charles WASKE, a long time city employee, was named to be new city administrator. WASKE has
headed the city union for several years.
Harper SPURRIER tested for her yellow belt in Hop Ki Do recently. She passed her test and brought her new belt to share
with her class.
Conservation awards were presented to area landowners when the Ringgold County Soil and Water Conservation District held
its annual banquet this year. Named West Fork of the Big Creek Watershed outstanding cooperators were Mr. and Mrs. David
RAINEY. Named district outstanding cooperators were Tom and Kristi SACKETT and Keith and Nancy SACKETT of Mount Ayr.
Named East Fork of the Grand River Watershed outstanding cooperators were Robert and Loy WALKER.
A winning record was taken to the holiday break by the Diagonal Maroonettes after the girls picked up two victories this
past week. The girls downed Orient-Macksburg 41-23 in Diagonal Tuesday night and then played Fox Valley on the road
Friday night, taking a 66-37 win. The girls are now 5-4 overall for the season and 3-3 in Bluegrass conference play.l
