Donna HEYER of Tingley was present when the second session of the National Silver Haired Congress adjourned March 1,
1998 in suburban Washington, D.C. HEYER is a member of the Older Iowans Legislature and was elected to represent the
group at the Silver Haired Congress this year. She represented Iowa's Congressional District 3 at the week-long
conference.
Five Mount Ayr Community high school students received division I ratings at the state speech contest at Roosevelt
high school iN Des Moines. Those five students were Amanda WERNER, Scott LAURITSEN, Laura JONES, Becky PARRISH
and Lindsay COMER.
Lee FARIS of Mount Ayr has been nominated for the 1998 Iowa Farm Bureau Distinguished Service to Agriculture award.
A former Mount Ayr Community high school graduate has been hired as the first woman police officer in the Indianola
police force. Jennifer GROSE, 21, a Kellerton native and a junior criminal justice major at Simpson College in
Indianola, joined the Indianola police department in March.
Two Ringgold county senior girls basketball players and a coach will be taking part in the 1998 Coaches All-Star
Games at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Mount Ayr Community Raiderette senior Melissa EIGHMY and Diagonal
Maroonette senior Amber SOBOTKA have been selected to play and coach Mark LARSEN will be coaching one of the teams.
