A Diagonal 4-H Club and the Tingley Lions Club are two of the 15 grand recipients in the 1874 Rural Awards Program of the Heinold Companies announced this week. The 4-H club will recieved $2,000 to enable them to complete the construction for restrooms at the rural area's community park. The 4-H club and the Diagonal Community Betterment Club have raised $1,800 in the past year to help fiance the $3,900 project. Tingley Lions will receive a grant of $2,000 to help complete the renovation of a ballpark serving 1,000 rural people. The club and community have raised $4,500 towards the project in the past two years.

When Dr. Suhir MARGATIA, at an open house Oct. 30, greets his many patients and friends he has made since coming to Mount Ayr on January 1, 1979, he ends one phase of service. The next week he travels to India to begin a new one. Dr. MARFATIA will leave the first week in November to start a new venture in the Surat area in northwest India.

Dr. Nayana PHATAK, 36, of Saybrook, IL is expected to arrive here November 1 to establish a general practice of medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology in the Mount Ayr Medical Clinic and the Worth County Medical Clinic in Grant City, MO. She joins the practice of Dr. Duane E. MITCHELL at Mount Ayr and in the former office of the late Dr. Frank MATTESON in Grant City.

John IRVING received a Century Farm designation during ceremonies at the Iowa State Fair recently, one of three county farms receiving the designation.

There will be at least three from Ringgold and Taylor counties taking paintings to the amateur Iowa Artists second fall art conference October 27 to be held at the Creston Community Center, in the old Burlington Depot. Elsie GALLOWAY of Redding, Virginia POWELL of Blockton and Retha FRENCH of Mount Ayr are expected to be participating and Bill COLEMAN of Kellerton is on the program, giving a demonstration on wood.

Four Mount Ayr employees of Iowa Southern Utilities Co. were honored for service at the annual emblem award banquet for western district employees. Elizabeth GREENE, an accounting clerk at Mount Ayr since December 1969, was honored for 15 years of service. Bob HALEY is a district lineman who joined ISU as an apprentice district service man at Creston in November 1969. He has 15 years of service. Raymond HENSLEY and Lowell HOWIE were both honored for 10 years of service. HENSLEY has been a district serviceman since October 1979 and was hired as a meter reader in July 1974. HOWIE has been a district serviceman since May 1976 and was hired as a meter reader in February 1974.
