RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 25, 1977

Jessica Graham, Mount Ayr

Area residents are faced with decisions regarding a rural water system in the community. The present dry spell and the idea that water is a precious commodity are reasons to push for this service. Current supplies of water are being drained and sources are unreliable for the future.

The Ringgold Singers will perform at the Iowa State Fair Sunday, for the second straight year. The group composed of men and women from all parts of the county will appear on the plaza stage behind the administration building from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Luckily, classes were not in session in Rita SHAY'S fourth grade classroom on the second floor of the Benton school when plaster on about half of the ceiling fell recently. School officials believe a thunderstorm shook the plaster loose.

A model of an old-time fuel wagon pulled by horses was a big point of interest at the Ringgold County Historial Society meeting Friday evening, August 18, at the Securtiy State Bank basement in Mount Ayr. Merle STEPHENS has completed and presented to the society a brightly painted red and blue model which he constructed, based on a photo provided by the Standard Oil Company. This will be placed in the Pioneer Center museum.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan PRITCHARD will celebrate their 50th wedding annniversary with an open house Sunday, September 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Delphos Baptist Church basement.

September 4 will be a special day for two Ringgold county families. This is the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Barton TURNER and the 25th wedding anniversary of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Laurance BISHOP. An open house will be held September 3 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the BISHOP home and another open house for the TURNERS will be held September 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church.

Larry BROWN, director of Ringgold County Social Services, was one of six members of an off-campus degree program offered by Iowa State University in Ames, department of political science, to receive his M.A. degree in public administration on August 18.

The Mount Ayr Raiders football team for the 1977-78 season will be looking to improve on a 2-6 season from last season. Returning letter winners are Gary BRAND, Steve BALLARD, John TRULLINGER, Russell ABARR, Rich SICKELS, Harold NESS and Mike EASON.
