Forty-one percent of Ringgold county youths of high school age and under have had no polio shots. This figure was
released following a survey taken in all parts of Ringgold county. The survey involved 1,363 youth and children.
Of these, 459, or 33.9 percent, had received all three shots and 341, or 25.1 percent, had been given less then three
shots. This means that 563 of thse youth, or 41 percent, had not received any Salk vaccine to date.
At the annual meeting of the board of directors of Iowa Southern Utilities Company, Edward L. SHUTTS was elected
chairman of the board and Harold L. MANN was re-elected president. Robert W. GREENLEAF was re-elected executive
vice-president in charge of engineering and operations.
Kaye RYAN was recently elected president of the local Methodist Youth Fellowship for the ensuing year. Other officers
who will assist Miss RYAN are Ann ABARR, Phoebe PETERSEN, Leslie RAUCH, Janie SKINNER, Bonnie MAY, Sue RICHARDS
and Karon PICKENS. Mr. and Mrs. Earl SCHARDEIN were re-elected as group sponsors.
Bill SPENCE of Pleasantville has been elected band instructor in the Leon schools for the ensuing year and will assume
his duties September 1. He is the son of Mrs. C. W. SPENCE of this city.
George D. WILLIAMS of Mount Ayr has accepted the position of mathematics instructor in the Kellerton high school
for the 1957-58 school year. Mr. WILLIAMS has served as superintendent of the Benton school for the past six years. He
was not a candidate for the position for another year.
The board of education has contracted Clarence L. MARTIN of Lone Rock to teach drivers training and act as guidance director
in the Mount Ayr high school for the 1957-58 school year.
Onofrio MONACHINO has tendered his resignation as mathematics instructor and coach in the Mount Ayr high school. He has
accepted a position as football coach and teacher in the Colfax high school for the 1957-58 school year.
Marvin TRIGGS, Mount Ayr famre and swine producer, has been retained by the Ringgold County Swine Producers Association
as probing technician for the "On the Farm Swine Testing Program."
