A meeting will be held this (Thursday) evening at eight o'clock at the school house in Diagonal in the interest of
establishing a 35-acre artifical lake, two miles west of Diagonal. The project is sponsored by the Diagonal Industrial
Committee, according to Lloyd GOINS, president. He said everyone in Ringgold county is cordially invited to the
meeting. The site of the proposed lake is natural with the fill from the old C. B. & Q. right-of-way already
established. A preliminary survey has been made by the Iowa State Conservaion Commission.
Friends and neighbors went May 16 to the farm of Mrs. John [Alma] DUSKIN, southeast of Kellerton, and prepared the ground and
planted corn for Mrs. DUSKIN, who recently [May 02, 1956] lost her husband. Sharing in the "Good Neighbor" deed were
Worthy BILLETT, Wayne O'DELL, Ira HALL, Herbert ORTH, Bill HARRIS, John HARRIS, Raymond ELLIOTT, Frank PIERSON, Duane
JOHNSON and Lloyd GILLILAND.
At a recent meeting of the Ringgold County Agricultural Stablization and Conservation committee, N. H. CAMPBELL of
Athens townhship was appointed manager of the ASC office in Mount Ayr to succeed Carroll MOTSINGER who recently resigned.
Nick, as he is known, has served on the Athens township ACS committee and has been a member of the county committee
since August 1955. Paul WION of Washington township will succeed CAMPBELL as the third member of the county committee.
Lyndon TAYLOR is chairman and Lawrence SWANK is vice-chairman.
Hugh FERGUSON of Tingley won the state title in class "C" division of the pole vault event of the state high school track
meet held Saturday at Ames. Jim McINTOSH, also of Tingley, and Charles BLACK and Corwin INGRAM, both of Mount Ayr, were
place winners.
Wayne A. OVERHOLTZER of Tingley, rural letter carrier on Route 1, has been presented a 26-year pin and award for
safe driving in the performance of his duties as rural carrier. The presentation was made by the National Safety
Council. Actually, Mr. OVERHOLTZER'S record of safe driving dates back more than 26 years; however, the program
of teh National Safety Council was not inaugurated until 1930 and recognition was not given beyond that year.
Twenty men with farm equipment disked, harrowed and planted 60 acres of corn May 17 for George SCOTT, who has been ill
with sciatica for the past month. Men who assisted were Dale POTTORFF, Jimmy POTTORFF, Wendall HILL, Merle HIGHTSHOE,
Frank GILLILAND, LylE GILLILAND, Jim COOK, Raymond ZINN, Shellie SCOTT, Albert POTTORFF, Leonard MAUDLIN, Garland COULSON,
Blaine SCOTT, Howard TULL, Glenn TULL, Glen CALDWELL, Wesley JONES, Wert MUNYON, Ruel MAY and Carl MAY.
Friends and neighbors met Wednesday afternoon of last week at the Ed KESTERSON farm and assisted with the planting of corn
and beans for Mr. KESTERSON, who suffered an eye injury about two weeks ago. Forty-seven men with 41 tractors, 12 planters,
27 discs and two harrows planted approximately 100 acres. Men who assisted were Elmer COLLIER, Everett COLLIER, Ted
PERLENFEIN, Kermit MILLER, Stewart ELLISON, George COULHARD, Seth CAMPBELL, Forest SHIELDS, Carroll SMITH, Bryan COMER,
Arthur DEIBERT, Dwight CUNNING, Bill WOOLLUMS, Laurance BISHOP, Omer HOLTZMAN, Herman WEBB, Neil JOHNSTON, Rollo FRY,
Lawrence KIMBALL, Alfred BUCKNER, Annis DAHLGRAN, Jake FUNKHOUSER and Alex SALTZMAN. Also helping were Ruel MAY, Carl
MAY, Mindy WALKER, Leslie AYERS, Harold SMITH, Howard SMITH, Raymond FROST, Ray JAMES, Doyle CLAYPOOL, Lynden TAYLOR,
Sam AUSTIN, George GERMAN, Homer SMITH, Albert DRAKE, Vernon CANNON, Homer RINEHART, Ted HIGHTSHOE, Lester WASHBURN, Frank
DEEMER, Harry HETZEL, Loren TRULLINGER, Walter CREGEEN, Albert BAGLEY and Albert DEEMER.
