Two Mount Ayr Community high school speech students and four from Diagonal Community high school qualified for the state
large group speech contest by receiving division I ratings at the district contest in Osceola. Sean KILGORE and Kelsey
ALLEN were selected to advance for their ensemble acting piece from Mount Ayr. From Diagonal the ensemble acting entry of
Abby STEPHENS and Shauna KILGORE and the group improvisation entry of Alex STEPHENS and Richard CASTELAN received
division I ratings to advance as well.
The first snowfall of enough magnitude that people could scoop a little if they wanted to fell in Mount Ayr Friday night
and Saturday morning.
Members of the Diagonal homecoming court included Greg GOODALE, Steven GRACE, Jason STAMPS, Tory WALKUP, Abby STEPHENS,
Andrea BENTLEY and DaNelle MOFFITT. Sophomore and freshman students who were attendants included Trisha MOFFITT, Gina
GUNSOLLEY, Trevor WOLF and Robbie MASON.
Mount Ayr Community's Raider wrestlers brought home two titles and two other placings in the tough John Harris wrestling
tournament in Corning Friday and Saturday. Blake HAUGLAND continued his string of tournament titles at 171 pounds and
Kevin TULLINGER added a title at 215 pounds. Taking fifth place at 145 pounds was Andy FORD while Kyle HAYSE placed sixth
at 103 pounds.
Five Mount Ayr Community youth wrestlers qualified for the state USA youth wrestling tournament to be
held in Johnson February 9-10 after doing well at the regional tournament in Osceola Sunday, Jan. 6. Qualifying for
the state were Weston PIERSCHBACHER, fourth grade; Tyler HOSFIELD, sixth grade; Chelsey HOSFIELD, fifth grade; Derrick
DREDGE, seventh grade, and Matt WIMER, seventh grade.
Ringgold County Farm Bureau representatives made two presentations to youth-related projects in the county in recent
ceremonies. Jim GOINS presented a check for $10,000 from the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation's Rural and Economic Development
Fund to representatives of the Ringgold County Teen Center -- Upper Limits. Another project of the Ringgold County Farm
Bureau is to pay the $10 annual enrollment fee for youngsters in the 4-H program in the county.
