There was $1,587 realized for Lori MONTGOMERY as a result of a benefit dance held October 1 at the Mount Ayr
American Legion sponsored by her friends. A total of $1,828 was collected and after payment of the band, "Second
Time Around," the remainder went to Mrs. MONTGOMERY, who was seriously injured in an automobile accident August 22.
David RICHARDS of Mount Ayr has transferred from the Kellerton Post Office to the Mount Ayr Post Office. RICHARDS
will be a clerk-carrier at the Mount Ayr Post Office.
A magazine article by Mike McGHEE, fish management biologist stationed at Mount Ayr, is featured in the October
issue of the Iowa Conservationist, the monthly magazine of the Iowa Conservation Commission.
Retail sales in southwest Iowa held steady or showed slight decreases during the third quarter of 1982, according to
statistics for a year ago released this week by the Iowa State Department of Revenue. According to the report,
retail sales and use taxes in Mount Ayr totaled $3,483, 401, down about half a percent from the third quarter in
1980. Total taxable retail sales in Ringgold county totaled $5,730,210 for the period. Diagonal sales totaled
$228,169; Kellerton sales totaled $126,190; and Tingley sales totaled $160,408, with an addition $1,716,809 in
sales outside these communities.
A new welcome mat for Mount Ayr tells visitors that this is the home of the Raiders and Raiderettes. The sign,
painted by Terrinda KLOMMHAUS and Barb POTTORFF, members of the Mount Ayr Future Farmers of America chapter,
welcomes visitors along Highway 169 north of Mount Ayr at the anhydrous ammonia tanks owned by Ringgold Ag
Service of Mount Ayr.
Mrs. Mavia LAMOUREAUX of Mount Ayr received the first bound copy of her book, "Searching for Greener Pastures,"
this week. Mrs. LAMOUREAUX, who is 82 years old, startted writing the book six years ago. It is a story of her
childhood as she journeyed westward with her partents and brother, Linly.
The construction tech class at Grand Valley Community high school has completed a repair project on the ball park
in Kellerton.
