It is graduation time at three area schools -- Mount Ayr Community, May 24; Diagonal Community, May 22, and Grand Valley Community of Kellerton, May 24.

Madonna FARRELL, daughter of Rick and Diane FARRELL of Tingley, will be among the May 24, 1987 graduates of Mount Ayr Community high school. Her mother will be among the May 17, 1987 graduates of Graceland College, Lamoni. Madonna's formal education took place in the usual 13 years. Diane's went as far as graduation from Picayune, MS high school in 1963 and was interrupted for 20 years.

First baby born after Mother's Day at Ringgold County Hospital receives a gift of pork from the Ringgold County Porkettes. Ringgold County Pork Queen Brenda BICKEL presented the gift this year to the parents of Jordan Douglas STILL, who was born May 13 at 11:52 p.m. He weighed in at seven pounds, eight one-fourth ounces and was welcomed by his parents, Doug and Jan STILL of Mount Ayr and two brothers, Calob, five, and Lucas, two.

Lynn SICKELS of Creston has been hired by the Ringgold County board of supervisors as engineer to take care of ongoing county projects scheduled for summer. SICKELS will be working in this county on a part-time basis so that important road projects, such as the improvementof the "Goose Pond road" (P27) can continue, supervisors said. SICKELS is known to local persons for work he has done on city projects and as the engineer for Southern Iowa's Rural Water Association.

The Mount Ayr Lions Club recently celebrated its 40th birthday and charter members Milt HENDERSON and Harold WEBB were recognized for their 40 years of membership.

Doris SHEIL was re-elected president of the American Legion Auxiliary at their regular meeting Monday, May 11.

Randy WEEHLER and Scott WALTERS have qualified for the state class 1A track meet to be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines on May 29 and 30. WEEHLER will be running in the 400 meter hurdle event and WALTERS will throw the discus. They qualified for state in a district track meet held in Greenfield Saturday.

Margaret BISHOP of MountAyr was Iowa's representative to the 1987 Women's International Bowling Congress (WIBC) senior championships in Niagara Falls, NY. When she wore her special bowling shirt and marched in a parade of women from 47 states, three Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico, she was unique. She was the only one wearing a cast on her leg, which was holding in place a bone broken just above the left ankle.

Trisha WAUGH, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry WAUGH of Jefferson, is among 12 girls selected to the 1987 Olympic Sports Festival North basketball squad, and the only Iowa girls basketball player to survive the four cuts. WAUGH, a junior at Jefferson high school, is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence WAUGH of rural Redding. Her father, Jerry, is a graduate of Mount Ayr Community high school.

Jay MEESTER has opened Mount Ayr Tractor Repair one and one-half miles south of Mount Ayr along Highway 169. He and his wife, Pat, also have a horse training stable called MEESTER Stables.
