A representive of the State Department of Public Instruction recently visited the Mount Ayr schools and the written
report of his findings highly commends officials, administrators and personnel for maintaining a high standard of
education service. The inspection was made by Paul WALLACE, director of supervision. The concluding cmment in his
written report reads, in part, as folows: "You may well be proud of the progress that has and is being made in your
school system. We believe improvment is being made in all areas of the school. Careful and cooperative planning is
important and we are sure your board stands ready to adopt such policy as it will improve the educational opporunities
of all the pupils."
Mrs. Len BEATH, who was recently elected secretary of the Independent School district of Mount Ayr, will assume
her duties the first of July. Mrs. BEATH succeeds Grant L. HAYES, who has faithfully served the school district over
a period of 28 years. He has served under the administration of six superintendents, W. F. MONA, W. F. JOHNSON,
W. H. McFARLAND, Hugh STEELE, R. T. KIRBY and C. Arthur HANSEN.
Complete service of the nationally accepted "Mail-Me-Monday" bookkeeping and tax method is now being offered
in Mount Ayr and vicinity, according to an announcement by Eldon L. MAIN, who operates "Mail-Me-Monday" of
Ringgold county.
After completing 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy, Verle HEGGS retired June 8 at the age of 42 with a rating of
chief electrician. Active service included the years of World War II and the Korean Conflict. A son of Mr. and Mrs.
Edd HEGGS, Verle was born and reared in Kellerton.
