The Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department has purchased the property where the former Catholic church building
was east of the fire hall and is working on plans for expanding the fire station. A 50 foot by 70 foot building addition
would be built on the new property. The current meeting area would be turned into a fourth fire vehicle bay.
Nancy MOUNTS, Iowa's 1992 teacher of the year, visited the Mount Ayr Community and Diagonal school districts this week.
She is the daughter of Bing WINEINGER, a former Grand River resident.
Ringgold county hasn't had the snow to be a winter sports mecca in recent winters, but the snow is staying around this
year, providing the opportunity for winter fun including cross country ski excursions for MACHS physical education
students and sledding around the county.
The Midwest Country Music Theater is featured this week, a place where the whole family can come and enjoy some time
together. Mickey MILLER of Bedford is emcee and lead male vocal singer for the show. Mandia LYNN from King City, MO is
the group's female vocalist.
LaVerne GLENDENNING, Social Worker II, Ringgold County Department of Human Services, retired on Thursday, Jan. 14 after
more than 31 years of service with the department. She was hired Dec. 18, 1961 as clerk-typist I with the department.
Rebecca Rae MORRISON of Gilbert and James Samuel (Tiger) GORDON, Jr. of Blytheville, AR were married at Grand Avenue
Baptist Church in Ames on July 25, 1992. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger MORRISON of Tingley.
Heidi STEWART was crowned queen and Matt STARMER was crowned king of the Diagonal Community high school homecoming there
Friday night. The Diagonal girls won their ball game while the boys dropped their matchup with Fox Valley.
Tiffany HUNT placed second and Michael FARIS placed first in the Mount Ayr Community geography contest been held recently.
In Diagonal, Zach GUNSOLLEY took first place in the competition sponsored by the National Geographic Society and
Amtrak.
Mount Ayr Community high school wrestlers placed fourth in the annual dual team tournament hosted by Mount Ayr. The Raiders
had three wrestlers named to the all-tournament team: Tyson DUKES at 103 pounds; Jacobs KNIGHT at 135 pounds; and Jim
ROTERT at 160 pounds.
The Diagonal Maroonettes basketball team added three victories last week to move their record to 8-2. In the 77-33 win
over Fox Valley, Cindy GOODALE put in 33 points; Heidi STEWART 21 and Trish CARSON 19.
