RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, November 20, 1986

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Mounds of corn are growing on the street on one side of the downtown park in Redding this week as storage space for this year's good harvest runs short. The Redding city council has given permission for Redding Feed and Supply to store corn on the blocked off street because storage space is at a premium. By the time the final quarter of the harvest in the area is in, the corn piles are expected to raise much higher.

Kelly JAMES of rural Mount Ayr became the 23rd member of the Mount Ayr Community high school chapter of the Future Farmers of America to receive the American Farmer degree. JAMES was presented the degree, the highest presented by the National Future Farmers of America organization, in a specialceremony Friday, Nov. 14, at the 59th annual FFA convention in Kansas City, MO. JAMES was one of 735 FFA members across the country and 20 in Iowa nominated for the degree.

Part of a country music group, Burbank Station, that had its first national release this summer, Brent WILSON, 24, formerly of Mount Ayr, now of Fargo, ND appears to be headed toward a career in music. WILSON, son of Bud and Margaret WILSON, has come a long way since he was presented the Arion award in 1981 at Mount Ayr Community high school. He was product of encouragement and instruction from Merrill PERRY, then music instructor.

Janelle WALTERS of Beaconsfield won first place in the preteen division of the District 3 Make It Yourself with Wool competition at Southwestern Community College. WALTERS, 12-years-old, had constructed a 100 percent wool red skirt, which she wore with a black turtleneck and red, khaki, and black safari blouse to create a layered look. Dana WEEDA of Tingley was part of the preteen competition. Judy HENSLEY of Mount Ayr is district director of the contest. Bobbi and Billi HUNT of Diagonal were narrators for the fashion show.

Shelly TAYLOR, a Mount Ayr Community high school senior, was presented the Daughters of the American Revolution good citizenship award for the year by Mrs. Neil CHICKEN of Mount Ayr.
