Rhonda BAKER was named valedictorian and Lori SICKELS was named salutatorian as the senior awards day at Mount
Ayr Community high school May 14. BAKER is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer BAKER of Mount Ayr and
SICKELS is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert SICKELS of Mount Ayr.
For the first time in MACHS history, the same senior music student won both the American Choral Directors Association
and Arion awards when Kevin PULLIAM was presented both during the Fine Arts Festival last Tuesday night.
Two junior boys at Mount Ayr Community high school in Mount Ayr have been named to attend the American Legion Boys State this summer.
Paul GLENDENNING, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd GLENDENNING of Mount Ayr, and David RIVERA, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe
RIVERA of Mount Ayr, were named to attend the week-long event at Camp Dodge.
Four Mount Ayr Community high school students were among 80 Iowa art students named as winners in the 38th annual AAA
national traffic safety poster contest, accoring to Dan McCARTHY, public affairs manager for the Iowa AAA. George HUNT
received an honorable mention and Cynthia SWIGART, Lynnette KNIGHT and Robert GRAHAM each received merit citations
from the club.
The Mount Ayr Community high school Raideretts 10-flight shuttle hurdle relay team will be running in the third heat
at the girls state track and field championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines Friday. Lisa KLEJCH, Tracey FLOYD,
Mary Ann WEEDA and Donna POORE make up the team.
Tracey FLOYD, a Mount Ayr Community high school senior, has been awarded a silver medal from the Stayfree Wade Trophy
Medals Club for her scoring accomplishment during her high school basketball career. FLOYD, daughter of Mrs. Ruth
FLOYD of Mount Ayr, scored 1,559 points during her basketball career as a Raiderette.
None of the Mount Ayr Community high school Raider track team members qualified for the state track meet at the district
meet Friday but the 4x800 meter relay team set a new school record with its effort earlier this eyar. Bill McINTOSH,
Jeff SOUTH, Randy GREGG and Ron BRAND were the members of the team who ran the 3200 meters in 8:28.2.
