Ringgold county sheriff Bob BENNETT, chief deputy Randy HULLINGER, county auditor Kim O'MAILIA,
county board of supervisors members and the Mount Ayr City council met at a special meeting of the council Tuesday
to evaluate the county-wide law enforcement program. Both city and council officials gave high marks to the program,
while raising a few questions related to providing security over the whole county.
A Ringgold county student at Iowa State University in Ames has accepted
membership in Golden Key International Honour Society. Christopher Lyle LEONARD, a 1998 graduate of Mount Ayr Community
high school, joined the non-profit, academic honors organization that provides academic recognition,leadership
opportunities, community service, career networking and scholarships, during a campus ceremony.
A Mount Ayr Community
high school student is a finalist in The Iowa State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Divisions "Know Your Constitution"
project. Landi McFARLAND of Tingley is one of 100 finalists selected from more than 5,000 students across the state who
participated in the project. McFARLAND is a student of Delwyn SHOWALTER and will be accompanied to Des Moines by James
SAVILLE. Should she be chosen, Pam CROSS would accompany her to Washington, D.C.
The Iowa Cattlemen's Association
presented its highest awards at their annual convention on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Earning the Hall of Fame award was the
Ringgold county cattleman Lee FARIS of Mount Ayr. FARIS has served as a past president of his county organization,
vice-president of his county organization, district director of the Iowa Cattlemen's Association, president-elect of
the ICA and president of the ICA. He currently serves as vice-president of the Iowa Cattlemen's Foundation. He and
his wife Martha have raised three children, Rodney, Jacqueline and Jennifer and have several grandchildren.
A Ringgold
county student helped demonstrate equipment at agraphic arts open house held recently at the Des Moines Area Community
College's Ankeny campus. Jerad PENICK of Mount Ayr, a second-year graphic arts student, demonstrated a spectrophotometer
in a color corrections booth in the new computer lab at the campus.
