On Monday Peggy WHITSON got a promotion. NASA administrator Sean O'Keefe gave
WHITSON the news personally via a radio hookup from Mission Control in Houston to the space station as it flew high over the
Pacific Ocean. O'Keefe noted that the agency would be designating a science officer for each Expedition flight from this point
forward. "And given your qualifications we are asking you to serve as the first science officer on International
Space Station," he announced. WHITSON replied, "Of course I'd be extremely honored to be the first science officer. I
appreciate everything you'vesaid."
A Century Farm award was presented to a Ringgold county family during the Iowa State
Fair recently. The award was presented to Laurance and Margaret BISHOP of Mount Ayr for their farm south of Mount Ayr. The
BISHOP award wasone of 445 presented to residents of 93 of Iowa's 99 counties.
