Eleven members of the Mount Ayr Vets baseball club shared the many prizes offered by Mount Ayr businesses
at the beginning of the 1952 season. Players winning prizes were Jim MARKLEY, Joe McNEILL, Clair JOHNSON, Skip EASON,
Lefty GEIST, Jack MONAGHAN, Russell DAVENPORT, Gene HANNON, Kenneth JOHNSON, Sam NEWTON and Ellis SHELDON.
Six girls will represent Ringgold county in the 4-H girls' division at the St.Joseph, MO Interstate Show Sept. 22 to
25. Sharon BROWN of Lamoni, Marina DERICKSON of Mount Ayr and Donna PINE of Diagonal will represent Ringgold county
in the home furnishing judging contest. Carol TAYLOR and Marilyn STARMER, both of Diagonal, won a trip for being the top
junior demonstration team in the county. Louis WALKER of Kellerton won a special award trip for her outstanding record
book. Mrs. Marvin SOBOTKA of Diagonal will accompany the group. In addition to the six girls representing Ringgold
county, there will be 32 4-H girls' exhibits taken to the Interstate Show. The articles were selected during the
Ringgold County Fair. 4-H members having exhibits qualify are Norma Kay CORLL, Mary Ellen JAMES, Louise FARIS, Mary
REES, Lorene TRULLINGER, Karen KESTERSON, Norma HOLFELD, Marina DERICKSON and Helen PINE of Mount Ayr; Jeanette WERNER of
Shannon City; Sheila ELSWICK of Lamoni; Judy BECK, Gayle SICKELS, Sharon BIERLEIN, Betty ROUDYBUSH and Marcia
GIBSON of Kellerton; Mae CULVER and Carlee CAVENDER of Maloy; Jenesse OVERHOLTZER, Mary Sue PRITCHARD and Myrna
ENGLAND of Tingley; Margaret NOLAN and Marilyn PRITCHETT of Redding; Evelyn PINE, Janelle TAYLOR, Ruth PINE and Arlene
BUTT of Diagonal; and, Myrtle SEVIER and Barbara LONG of Beaconsfield.
Five 4-H boys will represent Ringgold county at the St. Joseph Interstate Livestock Show Sept. 22-25. Marvin LESAN of
Kellerton, Willis CREES of Beaconsfield, Lowell AUSTIN of Mount Ayr, and Ronald LYNCH of Maloy will participate as a
livestock judging team. Michael McDOWELL of Kellerton will exhibit two Angus baby beeves.
"Shooting Stars" is the big show which uses all local talent will open Tuesday night Sept. 23 at the high school auditorium
in Mount Ayr. The show is being sponsored locally by the Business and Professional Women in an effort to raise funds
for the purchase of a new respirator-incubator for the Ringgold County Hospital.
J. K. RUNYON, superintendent of the Redding Consolidated School was elected president of the Ringgold County
Schoolmen's Club recently. V. R. BARNHOUSE, superintendent of the Kellerton schools, was elected vice-president,
and Miss DICKENS was re-elected secretary-treasurer of the organization.
