Among the grand champion market livestock winning top awards at the Ringgold County Fair last week were Brenna SWANSON who took top honors with the champion market swine. Among other top honors; Alicia SHIELDS who showed the grand champion market steer in the beef judging; Courtney WEEDA who had both the champion and reserve champion market lamb, and Brian ENGLAND who showed the reserve champion lamb.

Beth HARTSOOK, daughter of Gary and Polly HARTSOOK of Shannon City, was crowned queen of the Ringgold County Fair and Brook RYCHANOVSKY, daughter of Mark and Tammy RYCHNOVSKY of Diagonal, was crowned county fair princess at the fair's opening evening of entertainment Thursday night. First runner-up for queen was Sheryl DOLECHECK, daughter of Naomi and Allen DOLECHECK of Kellerton, and second runner-up was Holly MEESTER, daughter of Jay and Pat MEESTER of Mount Ayr.

Preliminary sales figures from the livestock auction at the Ringgold County Fair showed a total of $30,293, compared with $31,100 recorded at the sale last year. This year there were 14 hogs sold, compared with 37 hogs sold last year. There were 29 cattle sold, compared to 27 cattle sold last year. The 11 sheep sold compared to 10 sheep sold last year. There were five chickens sold, compared to the sale of 14 chickens last year. One rabbit was sold this year, compared to nine rabbits sold last year.

Advancing to the Iowa State Fair in the clothing selection contest this year was Beth HARTSOOK.

Winning the grand prize in the pie baking contest was Claire ANDERSEN with a peach berry pie and Amy WEEDA had the reserve champion pie with a gooseberry entry. The total raised by the pie sale, which goes to the 4-H Extension Youth Fund, was $4,200 this year. This compared to $4,075 last year.

Another event held Monday afternoon was the kiss a pig contest. People contributed to funds with the person with the most money being asked to kiss a pig Monday night. Pig kisser was Ethel CAMPBELL.
