Newly elected officers of the Ringgold County Development Corporation are Royce DAVIS, assistant treasurer, Leroy
BLESSMAN, president, and Dan CUNNING, secretary.
An attic fire, probably caused by defective wiring, resulted in an estimated $7,500 worth of damage at the
Mount Ayr Christian Church. The fire was thought to have smouldered in newly installed insulation for quite a while
before the discovery of smoke, noticed outside the building, brought the Mount Ayr volunteer firemen to the scene.
As Ringgold county supervior, Doyle TRULLINGER, was coming to the courthouse to work about 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 9, he
noticed smoke rolling out of the church attic. He reported this to Pastor Phil KINTON and the fire department was called.
Neighbors noticed a blaze at the Charlie MILLER farm residence eight miles southeast of Mount Ayr in Poe Township and
called the Mount Ayr fire department about 4:15 p.m. on Jan 11. However a strong wind was blowing and the house was
totally involved by the time firemen arrived, according to Fire Chief Max ANDERSON. No one was home when the fire, of
unknown origin, broke out. Firemen were able to protect other outbuildings and extinguish flames that had caught nearby
trees.
Fire in the engine of a 1973 Chevrolet Caprice wagon belonging to the Maurice CARPENTER totaled the
vehicle, valued at about $1,200.
