RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, August 15, 2002

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Mount Ayr school board members approved a new director district map drawn up by the Iowa Secretary of state's office, but they weren't happy in doing so. Several calls to the office of Chet CULVER and to the Iowa Department of Education have determined that the school district has no choice but to accept the maps as boundaries for the next 10 years. The school district had originally contracted with a firm to provide the maps for new director district lines, needed because of the new census information.

This Friday (August 16) Dr. Peggy WHITSON will get to do something no other woman in the world has ever done and only eight men have done, a space walk from the International Space Station as a member of a long-term resident crew. Only about half of the astronauts ever get to do a space walk in their careers and they all say it's an incredible experience.

The reserve market champion in the cattle show at the Ringgold County Fair this year was shown by Adam TRIGGS of Mount Ayr. Showing the top commercial heifer a the Ringgold County Fair this year was Tyler HAYSE.

ADAMS had a 4-3 record and added a save in pitching for the Raiders and had a 2.81 ERA. He also had a .295 batting average and a .480 on base average on offense. WILSON led the team in stolen bases with 19, had a.378 batting average, a .466 on base average and led the team in at bats with 82.

Rev. Pam FARREN, former pastor in Diagonal, is currently in the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following a stroke.
