Mount Ayr community elementary school has been chosen for one of the KCCI-TV school
weather stations and a celebration of the selection was held Monday at the school. A pizza party was held for
students and their families and the students were featured in a live news broadcast for the 6 p.m. news on KCCI-TV.
Weatherman John McLAUGHLIN broadcast the weather live from the elementary gymnasium with an excited crowd and signed
autographs and handed out KCCI-TV promotional items to students. Rideta Electric Cooperative is the main sponsor
of the new weather station, which went on-line Monday.
Three Ringgold county high school students have been named
State of Iowa Scholars by the Iowa College Aid Commission and will be recognized by Governor Tom VILSACK. Named
to the honor were two Mount Ayr community high school students -- Sean M. KILGORE of Diagonal and Holly M. MEESTER
of Mount Ayr -- and a Lenox high school student -- Gentry R. BAKER of Clearfield.
Donna HEYER advocated her bill
urging payment of the national debt during the 2001 session of the National Silver Haired Congress. She
returned to take part in the program again this year.
One Mount Ayr Community FFA chapter entry received a
gold medal and will advance to state competition at the state FFA convention in Des Moines in April. Mekenze
BISHOP received a gold medal and advanced to the state competition in the job interview competition.
