Dedication of the new Mount Ayr Community high school athletic field will be held tomorrow (Friday) night
prior to the kickoff between the Raiders and the Leon Cardinals, defending Blue Grass Conference champs.
It will be the season's opener for each team.
Karen MADDEN of Diagonal was named "Miss Rideta Electric of 1958: at the beauty contest held Thursday in Mount Ayr in
connection with the annual meeting of members of Rideta Electric Cooperative, Inc. Marilyn Sue SHIELDS of Mount Ayr
was runner-up, and Mary Ella HOLT of Afton and Carolyn BAKER of Creston tied for third.
A summer yearling Hereford heifer, exhibited by Loren TRULLINGER, of Middle Fork township, placed first in a large class
last week at the Northwest Missouri State Fair in Bethany. A summer yearling Hereford bull, also shown by Mr.
TRULLINGER, placed third in his class.
Three directors were elected and other important business was transacted at the annualmeeting of members of Rideta
Electric Cooperative, Inc., held Thursday at the fairgrounds in Mount Ayr. Lynden TAYLOR of Lotts Creek township
and L. R. LIVINGSTON of Taylor county were re-elected as directors and John SHAFER of Clinton township was selected
as a new director to fill the term of C. E. MORRISON, was not a candidate.
The Mount Ayr Chapter of Future Farmers of America received a blue or top rating on its farm mechanics booth,
which it sponsored August 30, during the Iowa State Fair.
Six Ringgold County 4-H club girls will have exhibits entered in the home furnishing classes at the Saint Joseph
Interstate Show to be held September 15 to 17, Members and the articles they will exhibit are as follows: Jean VICKER,
Diagonal, refinished furniture; Theanna BLACK, Mount Ayr, storage accessories and cleaning kit; Evelyn RYCHNOVSKY, Benton,
curtains; Barbara BARKER, Benton, dresser scarf; Mary Sue BASTOW, Mount Ayr, pillow cases; and Shirley GOINS, Diagonal,
picture.
J. W. TRIGGS and sons, Merritt and Marvin, have completed another successful year of showing their Spotted Poland China
hogs. At seven fairs their entries won top ribbons and were in the good money with every drive at the Iowa State Fair.
A barrow, shown at the Northwest Missouri State Fair at Bethany, was judged grand champion over all breeds. It will be
shown this month at the National Barrow Show in Austin, MN.
Paul SURFACE suffered a painful injury Monday evening when his left leg was pierced by a piece of wire at his farm in
Tingley township. Mr. SURFACE was cutting his lawn with a rotary power mower when the accident happened. One of the
blades struck a piece of fine, rusty wire, severed it and thrust it into the calf of his leg and through the bone.
He is a patient in the Ringgold County Hospital.
