Lesa SMITH, Debbie DULANY and Julie YEAROUS, accompanied by office education sponsor, Jean YEAROUS and husband Jack,
attended the National Office Education convention in Detroit, MI. YEAROUS received first in business arthematic;
DULANY second in job interview I; and SMITH fourth in extemporaneous speaking I.
The Mount Ayr Boy Scout Troop No. 165 recieved a special recognition blue ribbon for its participation in the
Bluegrass Mahaska District Scout-o-rama held April 30 at Greenfield. Manning the booth were all six members of the
troop: Ricky and Randy SWEET, Tom KINTON, Ricky FOX, Lance LANE and David STRINGHAM, along with Scoutmaster Mark
ESCH, Phil KINTON, Mr. and Mrs. Randy SWEET and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McGEHEE.
The Mount Ayr Community Raider track team was second in the Raider Relays held in Mount Ayr. Mike EASON of Mount
Ayr tied the record of 2:05.1 in the 880 which was set in 1977 by Kendall RASMUSSEN of Prescott.
Commencement exercises at Southwestern Community College at Creston will be held May 19 with the following from this
area graduating:
Retta DENNEY, Shellie STEPHENS and Mark SCHALPIA, associate in arts; Robert HOWLAND and Kenneth WALTER, carpentry
and building trades; Kenneth BEEDE, Ralph GROUT, Steven GILLILAND, and Keith BENNETT, electrician's training;
Alan IBBOTSON, masonry trades; Debbie FRENCH, office occupations; Jay MOORE, structural drafting; Paul HOHLFELD, associate
in applied science; Dianna SICKELS, office occupations.
