Tyler WILLIAMS, who has been middle school principal at Earlham this past year, has accepted a contract to be the
new elementary school principal to replace Larry GILES, who is retiring at the end of the school year.
Mount Ayr Community high school will have two drill team members participating in the 1999 All-Iowa honor drill team,
which makes its 16th appearance at the Girls State Basketball Tournament at Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines
Saturday. Jessica HYMBAUGH and Callie PHERIGO have been selected to represent Mount Ayr in the event with a total
of 196 dancers and 50 flag bearers taking part.
Angi DODGE'S third grade class recently received a $100 grant from teh South Central Iowa Community Foudation to use
for some community project. Mrs. DODGE'S class decided to donate birds for the aviaries at Clearview Home and
Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
Lee FARIS of Mount Ayr has been nominated for the 1999 Iowa Farm Bureau Distinguished Service to Agriculture award.
This announcement was made by the Ringgold County Farm Bureau Board of Directors at their February meeting in Mount Ayr.
Two entries in the district FFA contests in Pleasantville Saturday advanced t the state FFA contests. Advancing were
the conduct of meetings team, which received a gold medal, and the secretary's book, which received a gold medal.
Members of the conduct of meetings team were Sheryl DOLECHECK, Holly MEESTER, Penny REED, Amanda JACKSON, Brian FOOKEN, Austin
ADAMS and Rick STARK. Rachel DERSCHEID is chapter secretary and entered the secretary's book.
Five Mount Ayr Community high school students who placed high enough in state competition to move on to national
competition in Business and Professionals of America contests were Julie ROUDYBUSH, Molly LYNCH, Callie PHERIGO, Mandy
JOHNSON and Julie MORGAN.
