RETOLD OLD NEWS

Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
Thursday, September 10, 1987

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

A $175,000 grant will be part of a financing package which will breathe new life into the former Miracle Recreation Co. manufacturing plant in Mount Ayr. The grant, from the federal Community Development Block Grant set aside program, will be used along with more than $700,000 in company financing and $22,500 in help from the Ringgold County Development Corporation and Iowa Southern Utilities to start a company which will specialize in restaurant interiors and seating.

The August 28 completion of an oil and chips surfacing project, creating a 3,000-foot by 40-foot runway at the Mount Ayr airport, is expected to open up possibilities for increased traffic, according to airport commission members. The airport is located at the southeast edge of Mount Ayr. The 200-foot extension to the 2,800-foot existing runway and the widening to 40 feet, plus the surfacing, will accommodate larger aircraft up to cabin class, twin-engine size. Previously, the runway was used only by local traffic, said airport manager, Mike WARIN.

A plaque and a trip to Minneapolis, MN was awarded to Mount Ayr Foods recently by the Super Value food stores for their retail merchandising during the Nashville Jamboree promotion held at the store in April. Kelly and Rob THORNTON were honored as the top store in the region for their participation in the promotion.

Francis WILLIS of Mount Ayr and Kathy BUTLER of Clearfield were named to school board seats in the only contested elections when Ringgold county voters went to the polls to name new school board members Tuesday.

Kim McGINNIS of Mount Ayr represented Ringgold county at a youth citizenship conference August 18-20 near Des Moines.
