Lisa Wilson, Mount AyrEarly Morning fires Monday and Tuesday destroyed a trailer home and John's Southside, a business on the south
side of the Mount Ayr square this week. Mount Ayr Volunteer Fire Department personnel were called to the trailer house
of Mr. and Mrs. Bill STARK on South Harrison Street in Mount Ayr at 2 a.m. Monday, June 8 and fought a blaze at John's
Southside Tavern at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 8. The trailer home was totally destroyed with only a few personal
possessions taken out of the bedroom before the trailer was lost. Heat and smoke completely ruined the contents of
John's Southside and strutural damage was done to the center of the building Tuesday morning, according to fire chief
STARK.
Vonna JACKSON, Ringgold county pork queen, will be competing for the title of district pork queen as part of the
pork producer-porkettes district conference to be held at the community building in Winterset Friday, June 11.
Republican Lee FARIS of rural Mount Ayr will face off with Democrat Duane POORE of Beaconsfield for the Ringgold county
board of supervisors seat in the only race for county office on the ballot in the November election.
The Washington Workers 4-H Club and Laura SMITH and Lisa STEPHENS of Diagonal received commendation from the Iowa
Department of Substance Abuse in Des Moines for their substance abuse prevention project which received an IDSA
mini-grant.
A cow was killed in the middle of Highway 2, two and one-fourth miles east of Mount Ayr at 11:15 p.m. Friday in the only
accident reported by the Ringgold County Sheriff's department this week. William Dean DAUGHTON of rural Kellerton
was driving a 1981 Ford pickup, registered to DAUGHTON Farms, along Highway 2 when he came upon a cow in the middle of
the roadway, struck and killed it.
Trying to keep the post office in Benton was the subject for a community potluck supper held recently in Benton.
Kingsley SCHAUDT, president of the postmaster's association, came from Slater to meet with the 50 people at the supper.
Lori SICKELS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob SICKELS of Mount Ayr, was installed as Worthy Advisor of the Mount Ayr
Rainbow Assembly, Sunday, May 23, at 2 p.m. in the Masonic Temple in Mount Ayr.
