Miss Myrta SHANNON was elected president of the United Council of Church Women during the May Fellowship
meeting held Friday in the United Presbyterian Church. Other officers elected were Mrs. John IRVING,
Mrs. Virgil CANNON, Mrs. Keith FISHER and Mrs. Gerald YOUNG.
Kellerton and Lenox met yesterday afternoon in the finals of the district Iowa high school baseball tournament
at Kellerton. The game was in progress at the time the Record-News went to press.
Kay RYAN has been nominated by the girls county 4-H committee to attend the state 4-H Leadership Camp this year
at the new camp site near Boone. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos RYAN of Liberty township, Kay is a junior at
the Mount Ayr school and has completed seven years as a member of the Liberty Belles 4-H Club.
Lee FARIS, county boys 4-H vice-president, recently tendered his resignation from that office since he is residing
outside the county. The county 4-H committee has appointed Melvin GRAY to fill the unexpired term as vice-president.
On the occasion of Homemakers' Day held Thursday in Omaha, NE, Mrs. David ALLEN of Tingley township was honored by the
Omaha Chamber of Commerce as Ringgold County's Homemaker of the Year. Besides being actively engaged in caring for her
family of four - Bobby, 13, Arthur, nine, Ruth, six, and John, three - and assisting her husband in the operation of
a 160-acre farm, Mrs. ALLEN finds time for community and county church, school and club activities. She is also
chairman of the county extension Family Living Committee.
