James R. WELLS,
a January graduate of the Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO, has accepted a position with the Internal
Revenue Service, Kansas City, MO office, the duties of which he assumed Monday. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Vivian
WELLS of Mount Ayr.
Donald BACON, who had served for the past
three years as agent in the local office of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, has been transferred in a like capacity
to the Leon station. Mr. and Mrs. BACON and their four children moved their household goods Tuesday to Leon, where
they will reside. The local station will be served temporarily by a supply agent.
Verne STONE, local telephone operator
for 35 years, was presented a service award pin Monday evening in recognition of her long period of service with the
Ringgold County Mutual Telephone Company.
Victor THOMPSON returned to duty Thursday as marshal of Mount Ayr. His
nomination for the position by mayor J. L. SCARDEIN was
approved by unanimous vote of the town council. Mr. THOMPSON, who formerly served as a marshal, was relieved of his
duty last fall under the TURNER administration.
