Teri KRAMER ROKUSEK, elementary principal at Reinbeck and a person chosen to carry the Olympic torch on its way to Salt
Lake City, UT, visited the Mount Ayr Community elementary school Friday, March 1. ROKUSEK, a Mount Ayr Community high
school graduate, brought the torch she carried to kindergarten, first and second grade groups and then had an assembly
for third through sixth graders in the elementary school gymnasium. "Light the Fire Within" was the theme for the Winter
Olympics this year.
Members of the conference champion academic day team included Maggie GILLILAND, Kinda FISHER, Brad WILSON, Landi
McFARLAND, Sean KILGORE, Andrea TAYLOR, Heidi WINKLER, Nick JOHNSON, Troy HENRY, Katie WEDDLE, Jacque BAKER, Kristen
WILKEY, Joey RUSK, Daniel STULL and Jeff BURGHER.
Two Mount Ayr Community Business Professionals of America students placed in the state BPA contest in Des Moines to
qualify for national competition. Kim LARSEN placed first in the financial math and analysis contest and received
honorable mention in the administrative support concepts test. BreAnne FISHER placed fourth in the legal office
procedure contest to qualify for nationals as well.
A reception was held Friday to honor Marilyn JOHNSON of Mount Ayr on her retirement from the Firstar Bank.
JOHNSON had been an employee of the bank and its predecessors for a total of 42 years. She had held several positions
over the years and was teller coordinator of the bank at her retirement.
