Efforts by a number of Ringgold County groups to promote economic development in the county were rewarded with a first
place award in the county division at the Iowa Community Betterment Recognition day in Ames Saturday. Ringgold county
was recognized with the first place award from the efforts coordinated by the Ringgold County Development Corp. The
corporation received the Governor's Leadership Award for its efforts and Helen BLUNCK, mayor of Benton, received the
leadership award as well. Benton had the only individual community entry in the event from the county.
Fire at the home of Cathy COLE and her family about 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 3, resulted in extensive smoke and water damage,
particularly to the upstairs of the 10-room frame house in southwest Mount Ayr.
Francis WILLIS of Mount Ayr was elected
as a new member of the Ringgold County Fair Board during an annual meeting held Monday afternoon, Nov. 3. WILLIS and
two who were reelected -- Dr. Keith MILLER and Larry HOPKEY of Mount Ayr -- will serve three-year terms. WILLIS was
named to the position left vacant by the retirement of John IRVING of Mount Ayr, who has served many years on the board.
