Plans are nearing completion for the establishment of city delivery in Mount Ayr, effective November 14. The town has
been divided into two carrier districts, each district to be served by a foot carrier. William R. BRYAN, an employee
of the post office for the past 12 years, will be transferred to Route Number 1. Wayne McGEHEE was been employed
on a temporary basis to serve Route Number 2. Weldon BARKER will be moved from a temporary substitute to fill the
present position of Mr. BRYAN. Carriers will serve only residences where house numbers and boxes have been installed.
Lions Club members received another shipment of boxes yesterday and the installation of boxes and numbers at residences
which have not been served will start immediately
The Mount Ayr Community high school is in the process of organizing an honor society. This will be for the purpose of honoring
scholarship, leadership, service and character. It will be the first time a club such as this has been organized
in Mount Ayr.
Marvin E. LANE, a senior in the Mount Ayr Community high school, was among the top 24 4-H and F.F.A. boys in Iowa, who were
honored Monday night at the All Agricultural Banquet served in Great Hall, Memorial Union, Iowa State University, Ames.
Marvin was accompanied to Ames by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert LANE, and Melanie McFARLAND, who shared in the courtesy.
Marvin was selected for the honor on the basis of high scholastic achievement and outstanding leadership in the local
school. He is a member of the Mount Ayr Chapter, Future Farmers of America.
Gerald NOBLE was elected president of the Ringgold county boys 4-H organization during its annual meeting. Gerald, a son
of Mr. and Mrs. Norman NOBLE of Mount Ayr, is a member of the Caledonia Future Farmers 4-H Club. A brother, Rollin NOBLE,
serves as leader of the club. Other officers elected were Randall DAVENPORT, vice-president; Dale WALTERS, secretary-treasurer;
and Jerry HIGHTSHOE, reporter-historian. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee DAVENPORT, Randall is a member of the
Lincoln HotShots 4-H Club. Dale, who belongs to the Beacon Bombers, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Chris WALTERS of Beaconsfield.
A member of the Kellerton 4-H Hustlers, Jerry is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bud HIGHTSHOE of Kellerton.
