Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

Lisa Wilson, Mount Ayr

Most of the celebration of Halloween was positive or harmless around Ringgold county but quite a bit of damage was done in the downtown Kellerton area over the weekend, according to the Ringgold county sheriff's department. Vandals tore planter boxes off the front of the Kellerton Cafe. An antique bell by the fire station was upset and the frame work broken, causing damage to the antique which will cost quite a bi to fix. [The bell is the old fire alarm bell which was re-set with brick framework. ~ SRB] The beauty shop sign at Kathy COMER'S beauty shop was destroyed. A number of items were also strewn around the main street area.

A number of blanks were filled in when Ringgold county voters went to the polls Tuesday to elect mayors and council members in the municipal elections. In Mount Ayr, Clyde SUMMERS was re-elected as mayor and four council members were named - Mike DOUBLEDAY, Bill SCHUSTER and Eldon E. STILL to four-year terms, and Edward McCREARY to a one-year term to fill an unexpired term. In the mayor's race, Clyde SUMMERS was re-elected with 144 votes.
