County voters helped nominate Jim Ross LIGHTFOOT as the Republican candidate for U.S. Represenative in the new Third
congressional district in the primary election Tuesday. Incumbants James JONES and Ethel CAMPBELL won nominations as
Democrat candidates and Jim GOINS and Harold COOPER won nominations as Republican candidates for the two board of
supervisors members to be chose in the fall.
Hy-Vee Food Stores has purchased the Mount Ayr Foods building on Highway 2 in Mount Ayr and will relocate its
store there from its downtown location. The larger store building will allow the food store to expand the variety
of items in all of its departments.
The information about the top honor graduates at Grand Valley Community high school was switched around in last
week's Record-News. Valedictorian of the final graduating class was Tami LARSON and salutatorian was David GROSE.
Naomi PADGITT became the bride of Allan DOLECHEK in a 1 p.m. February 29, 1992 double-ring ceremony held at the
Kellerton United Methodist Church.
Mount Ayr's Chapter CK of the P.E.O. Sisterhood will be among the 26 Iowa Chapters to host the 100th annual state P.E.O.
convention to be held June 5-7 on the Drake University campus in Des Moines. Kathryn CHARTRAND, Chapter CK president,
will be the official delegate to the convention.
The proceeds of the annual Super Bowl hoagie sale, a total of $500, was presented to the Mount Ayr Park Board
at a recent Ringgold Optimist Club meeting. The contribution will be used for new metal benches at the ball fields
as well as new lighting and rebuilding of th west ball field at Judge Lewis Park.
Mount Ayr Community Raider golf squad placed 10th in the Class 2A golf competition held in Iowa City in the Raider's
first ever trip to the state golf meet. The squad included Russ SHIELDS, Justin JONES, Bryan SHAFER, Drew LARSEN, Rich
SHELLEY and David LAWHEAD.
Megan McFARLAND, the first Raiderette to make it to the state golf tournament, placed fifth among the six medalists
competing in the Class 1A golf tournament in Cedar Rapids.
At the state track meet in Des Moines, Raider Russ HENSLEY took fourth in the discus and senior Marty MOE placed
sixth in the 3200-meter for the only two scoring placings by the Raiders. HENLSEY heaved the discus 152'2', and MOE
ran the 3200 in 9:58:69.
