Ann BEYMER and Connie MORGAN were first and second place winners, respectively, in the Ringgold county spelling contest held Saturday in Mount Ayr. Fourteen students -- nine girls and four boys -- of the Grand Valley, Diagonal and Mount Ayr Community school districts participated in the annual event. The two girls will represent Ringgold county in the district spelling contest to beheld April 11, at 2:30 p.m., at the KSIB studios in Creston.

The Rev. Gordon O. STOKKE of Clearfield, who has served as supply pastor of the local United Presbyterian Church since January of this year, has been called to a regular pastorate, the duties of which he will assume on June 1. He and his wife will reside in the manse at 504 E. Madison, presently occupied by the Merrill PERRYS.

The Choral Club, a division of the Women's Federated Club of Ringgold county, will appear on the program of the 35th biennial convention of the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs, Inc., scheduled to be held April 9, 10 and 11, in Council Bluffs. Delegates to the convention from the local club are Mrs. Herman FENNEMA, Mrs. Vance GEIGER, Mrs. Frank CLARKE and Mrs. Bill HAROVER.

Five members of the Raiders basketball squad of the Mount Ayr Community high school were included on the Des Moines Sunday Register's honor roll of outstanding Iowa players. They are Robert ALLEN, Gary KEPLINGER, Don SMITH, Bill WARIN and Jerry WAUGH. Four other outstanding players of this area on the roll are Danny HOSFIELD, Ellston (Grand Valley); Jack MOREY, Clearfield; Ed OILER, Lamoni, and Dave WEBER, East Union, Afton.

Three persons were injured in a car-truck collision which happened Thursday about 7 p.m., three miles west of Maloy. Drivers of the two vehicles were brothers, Ray MERCER of Blockton and Marvin MERCER of Kirksville, MO. Ray MERCER was driving east en route to Maloy for visit with his mother, Mrs. Lola MERCER. Other occupants of the truck, owned by M. MERCER'S employer, E. G. MENELAUS, were Mrs. MERCER and son Elvin, a sophomore in the Mount Ayr Community high school. Mavin MERCER was westbound en route to Creston in a car owned by Ray. The two cars collided at the crest of a hill, as each was being driven towards the center away from the soft edges of the road. Both vehicles were totally destroyed.

Four students of the Mount Ayr Community high school won I and II ratings at a state speech contest held Saturday in Shenandoah. Joe BOWEN received a I rating in each of the interpretative poetry and original declamation divisions; a II rating was awarded Norma WALLACE on her dramatic reading, and Susan HENDERSON and Cynthia KELLY were given II ratings in oratorical declamation. Each of the four students, coached by Mrs. M. H. OBERMEIER, had previously received a I rating in a district contest.

Officers at the Tingley State Savings Bank were re-elected Tuesday night at the annual meeting of directors. Officers are Wm. S. BRECKENRIDGE, president; W. A. OVERHOLTZER, vice-president; Carl G. RIGGS, executive vice-president; Margaret EIGHME, cashier, and Harold GROUT, assistant cashier. Directors are BRECKENRIDGE, OVERHOLTZER, RIGGS, H. J. MORRISON and Ernest BASTOW.
