Shelly WILKINS, Mount Ayr Community high school senior, was presented as the 1979 Arion award winner last Thursday
evening. She is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Merlin WILKINS.
The gun safety exhibit of the Mount Ayr FFA chapter earned a silver award when it was entered in the competition at the
state FFA leadership conference in Waterloo. Working on the exhibit were Tom KRAMER and Rodney HINTZ. Jeff QUICK
received a bronze award for proficiency in ag mechanics.
Two Mount Ayr youths, Todd SMITH and Kenny SWANK, will be the Mount Ayr American Legion Post No. 172 representatives to
Boys State in June.
Dennis BRECKENRIDGE of Tingley started May 1 as an agent service the east half of Ringgold county for the Ringgold-Union
Farm Bureau Insurance Agency.
The skate-a-thon participated in by local youth for the benefit of the Heart Association brought in $559 in Ringgold
county. Collecting the most funds were Tony CAVENDER, $59.50, Billy HIGHTSHOE, $53.50, and Jennifer TAYLOR, $40.50.
Twila Joanne PAYTON and Gary L. DIVELY, both of Kellerton, were married in a ceremony performed by Cela FUGATE on
Jan. 20, 1979 in the Kellerton Christian Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald KELLER will oberve their golden wedding anniversary on May 22 with an open house.
Joyce J. EGAN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. JAMES of Grand River, has been promoted to senior airman in the U.S.
Air Force.
The Mount Ayr Community Raiderettes won their second consecutive team title as they coasted to victory in the
Cardette Relays at Leon April 30. Winning individual events were: Taina VUORELA, mile in 5:54.9; Laura FORD, discus in
99' 4"; and Shelley COLLIE, shot tossed 34' 4 1/2".
